Hachiro sat near the water's edge, near one of the more isolated corners of Lake Puleun. Trees surrounded that side of the lake, and the glorious mountains beyond, yet the tribe leader could clearly see members of his tribe collecting water from the banks adjacent to the one he was sitting at. The young, pale-haired man would often come to sit by the lake, for he found it quite calming. His long legs were bent in front of him on the sand whilst his torso was supported by the thick root of a nearby tree. The world around him was silent besides the occasional bird cry and the distant sounds of one man yelling to another as they worked. Bushes rustling behind Hachi alerted him. He narrowed his blue-green eyes suspiciously, tucking his legs underneath him in case he needed to spring. His slender hand rested on the hilt of his sword, the one that had been passed down for generations in his family. "Show yourself." His voice was musical and light, but more or less assertive.
Nam's cat pounced out of the bush, joyfully purring as his owner followed suit. Nam took a side glance at the man and blinked his yellow eyes curiously. The small white cat crawled up onto his shoulder and rested there obediently. The boy narrowed his eyes. "I have." His voice was calm and showed no signs of worry or alarm. Nam was a collected guy and most of the time stayed pretty calm.
"What will you do now?" He yawned and sat down, crossing his legs. The white feline sat on his lap and he began to pet the small animal. "You wouldn't hurt a guy with a cat, would you?"
Hachiro tilted his head, relaxing slightly as the brown-haired boy stepped out of the trees, around the same age as himself. He watched as the cat wound it's way around bushes and roots, watching calmly as it came closer to the leader, only to retreat and climb back onto Nam's shoulder. He stood swiftly and gracefully, brushing off his legs.
"Nam," he recognized the yellow dragon easily, or golden dragon, as he had been recently called. "There was no intention of hurting either you or the cat," he glanced back at the adorable thing, raising one eyebrow. "I'd like to ask what exactly you are doing here, dragon?"
Nam raised a brow. "Ah..." He rubbed the back of his head. "You leaders all act a lot differently from each other. Min-seo seems neutral with other tribe's visiting, you seem mildly okay with me here, and that Fire tribe leader halted me at the marketplace." He noted aloud to himself.
"I was looking for Shin-ah but I ended up finding you." He shrugged. "I was trying to be sneaky, but I somewhat stopped caring half way through." He yawned yet again. Damn he needed a nap.
Hachiro raised one eyebrow. "I decided not to judge wether I'd be angry or not until after I've learned of your antics," he sat back against the tree root, although this time he was more alert and careful than before. He rested his elbows on his knees so that his hands dangled downwards, studying Nam's face. "I would expect Min-seo to welcome you. You are the protector of her tribe, are you not?"
"Shin-ah? Why do you wish to meet with the blue dragon?" He asked. "Next time you come through here, alert me first. I don't believe our tribes are on the best terms as of now, and if the villagers were to see you, I doubt they would react well." He shrugged. "I would be happy to escort you as long as your business is not a bad one." He said.
"Antics?" He raised a brow. "I am, but I meant visitors of other tribes. She seems neutral about it as long as they don't cause a commotion." He shrugged.
"I don't think it'd be hard to believe, but Shin-ah and I are friends." He explained. "I've known him for quite a while." He added. Nam had always come and go as he pleased. He cared little for regulations, usually.
"I don't usually enjoy being escorted. I've never really enjoyed babysitters even as a kid." He crossed his arms.
Hachiro chuckled, leaning his head back against the root. He stared out across the water, glancing sideways at Nam when he spoke. "Ah, I see," he replied. Min-seo seemed to have similar thoughts on the topic. Though he appeared relaxed, he was still vigilant and ready to spring if the need arose. Name was unpridictable as far as Hachi knew.
"Oh?" He tilted his head. "Friends. Huh. I didn't expect such a response," he shrugged. "Alright. I'll alert him that you came by when I see him next - I belive he is busy as of now." His face reflected amusement at the dragon's next words. He's stubborn, isn't he? "Very well, no escort. Still, I'd appreciate it if you could notify me first? Next time I'll pass the message to Shin-ah. Expect to be met at the edge of our tribe, because, as I said before, it would cause quite a commotion with the villagers if they saw you."
I could always ban him from entering the territory. But then again, the two are friends. It shouldn't be any harm. He gazed back across the teal-colored lake. If he doesn't agree, I may have to tell him off. "Is all well in your tribe?"
"Well being a dragon you kind of have a connection with the other dragons, even if you don't want to. We can easily locate each other, almost like a sense to be able to feel each other's presence nearby." He glanced at Hachiro. "He was looking for a pet. I wanted to see if he ended up getting one." He shrugged.
"Not exactly an important matter but..." He smirked and a scoffing laugh was easily heard. "Ah... I guess. I don't get why people get all edgy when they see me. I dye my hair to not match the mainstream yellow dragon appearance, I hide my tail and don't pick any fights." He crossed his arms.
"It's baffling but I guess I'm just someone who seems to stick out of a crowd." He nodded. "My tribe is doing fine as far as I know."
"Ah. Well, excuse me," he chuckled. "I don't know much of dragons. I haven't spoken with Shin-ah for quite a while, and our conversations usually consist of inside problems," Hachiro shrugged, resting his chin on his arms crossed over his knees. "A pet?" For some reason, the leader found that somewhat funny, but he didn't laugh. Maybe it was the fact that it sounded odd if a dragon took care of some fluffy animal. "Do you know what he planned on getting?" He inquired curiously.
"Hm. Perhaps it's because your a dragon?" He cocked one, slender, pale eyebrow. "Your also from another tribe. You can't blame others for being on edge - some don't know what you are capable of," he shrugged, face calm and passive.
"Quick trivia, most of what it says about us in the books isn't exactly one hundred percent accurate." He shrugged his shoulders and his hands moved upwards with the motion. "That's not surprising. Most of your members fear Shin-ah." Nam knew the troubles Shin-ah went through, being thought of as a 'cursed one',
"All I know was he said he wanted to name it Ao. He also seemed to agree with the idea of a small fluffy animal. I'm going to guess he'll acquire a small rodent, or something. Maybe a bunny? A chipmunk, a squirrel? Something like that." He gave a scoffing laugh.
"I don't have interest in jabbing my swords through anyone unless they give me reason to, or if the job requires me to. But I guess to each their own. I guess the tribes are on edge with each other as of late with the throne ordeal."
Hachiro raised his eyebrows in amusement. "Whats the point of an informational book if it isn't true?" He didn't expect an answer, glancing down at Nam's cat again. I wouldn't mind some company. I don't get visitors often - well, the people that do visit aren't my friends. He glanced back at the dragon. "They do. And it's a shame," he frowned.
"Ao? What made him decide that?" He asked. It was a cute name. However, he still couldn't imagine Shin-ah with a small animal, much less a fluffy one. It would match the mask that he rarely took of, though.
"Of course, they do not know that. As far as I know, you haven't announced that you don't wish to chop their heads of," he gave a soft snort. "That too. All the throne business. Ugh." He sighed. "Whats his name? The cat."
"Most of what is in the history books was written a long time ago before the dragons even became custom to the Clans. So little was known of them." He nodded. Shin-ah had it very difficult having to hide his face with a mask and being feared by his tribe.
"Ao was someone that kind of took care of him, like a mentor kind of. I remember little of Ao but I remember his significance to Shin-ah." He'd heard Ao was really the only one to be able to understand Shin-ah. Although Nam didn't really know all that much in the first place of it.
"Yoon. It means soft and sleek. This cat's mother died along with his siblings. Ironically I thought he wouldn't make it since he was the smallest but turns out he was the strongest out of all of them." He pet the cat's head and it flicked its tail happily.
"That makes more sense," he nodded, dappled shadows dancing across his shoulders and legs. He listened to Nam's response about Ao, giving a small nod. He remembered his father, and how well he had taken care of him once his mother had died. Yet his father was dead, as far as he knew at least. He had gone off to fight and had never returned. It was the most plausible explanation that he was dead.
"I like the name," he smiled softly at the soft-looking cat, wondering how soft the animal really was. Once, a long time ago when he was a child and his mother hadn't been sick, they had taken care of a dog and a cat. He had loved the animals more than anything - maybe it was time to get one. Yuuki had been the dog that he hadn't spent any time without, but they had been forced to give him away when they did not have enough money to feed him.
"I used to have a cat," he said. "And a dog." He shrugged, looking back over the lake. He doubted Nam knew how much the animals had meant to him, and how upset he had been when they had been given away. He had told his father he had hated him then, and stomped up to his room. If he had known his father was going off to fight, he surely wouldn't have said such a thing. I think if I got a dog, I'd name him after Yuuki.
