(I'm so sorry about how late this is! I promise I'll actually be active from now on, it's been a long week. @swordsunite)
Sang Bora paced in the foyer of his rooms, where guests were usually recieved. Today he would be having his first official meeting with the new leader of the fire tribe, a meeting he'd put off for some time now. His relationship with the former leader hadn't been very close and they'd only really met when absolutely necessary. He didn't really expect this meeting to go any different, but Hakunai was a woman. Women liked to talk. Was that stereotypical? Probably. He didn't really care.
It was fairly well-known among the social elite of Hwajae that Sang Bora was a fairly independent spirit. Not necessarily in the flashy way-- it was more of a subtle avoidance of being under the control of others any more than absolutely necessary. No dragon in his right mind would actually ignore his or her responsibilities, and the red dragon was no different.
He could, however, put the unnecessary formalities on hold for a while. No request had come in for him to work as a bodyguard to the new leader yet, and he enjoyed having some level of political control in rescheduling her request to meet a few times. It was really unnecessary and he knew it, but at the very least it was a harmless way for him to pretend he had some level of control in his personal life.
Ohh, he did not want to do this. With a deep breath he gave the room another once-over. There weren't any guards (honestly with his dragon's fire he could probably burn them to a crisp), but a few might file in once the leader arrived. Or maybe they wouldn't. He'd hosted other leaders before, and the most they'd needed were dragons. He half hoped she would bring some so the introductions wouldn't be as awkward, but on the other hand the more people there were the more smothering it would get.
He heaved a sigh, forgetting that exhaling smoke would leave the room smelling like it. Great.
Her boots made a clacking sound as they had made contact with the floor. There were two escorts of hers, leading her to the dragon's keep. The two escorts would glance at each other a few times. They were unsure of how the meeting would go between the Red Dragon and the new leader of Fire Tribe. Hakunai was a fiery, short-tempered woman that could easily get into a fight if the dragon wanted to be a bit.. snarky with her. Of course, she would hold back for as long as she could so she could compromise with Sang Bora.
Her long, black hair flowed behind her as she walked and she held her head up high. They had arrived at the door and one of the men went to open the door for the leader. "I can open the door by myself." she said sternly. The man stepped to the side and nodded to her. "Yes, of course.." Hakunai walked up to the door and exhaled deeply, turning the door knob and opening the door. The escorts followed right behind her as she walked in. She walked out into the middle of the room and looked over to see a man with black hair as well.
The leader turned to him and stared at him, narrowing her eyes slightly. The room smelled like smoke but that didn't seem to phase her. A small smile appeared on her face and her lips moved to form her words. "Hello, Red Dragon." One of her escorts stepped forward and opened his mouth to speak. "Y-Yes. This is-" "I don't think that's necessary. I can speak for myself. Thank you both for bringing me here. You are both dismissed. I can handle it from here." The two glanced at each other and practically scrambled out of there before the two could get in a fight. They definitely did not want to be in the middle of a fight between the Red Dragon and Hakunai.
I swear... I'm not as bad as they think. The girl let out a distressed sigh and looked back to the dragon. "My name is Hakunai. If you wouldn't mind, please call me Haku."
Sang Bora had been in the middle of trying to wave the smoke away when he heard three sets of footsteps nearing his room. Oh, well, surely she could handle a bit of smoke.
He straightened up as the door slid open. She narrowed her eyes a bit. He wasn't really sure if it was a challenge, but a moment later she smiled and introduced herself. Before he could respond a guard hurried to introduce her, and she cut him off. His mouth twitched a bit, but he refused to smile back. No, his job wasn't to be inviting. He waited until the guards were gone before he bowed.
"I do not mind at all. It is an honor, Lady Haku. My name is Sang Bora, or Red Dragon. Whichever is more to your liking." He remained standing, waiting for her to take a seat. "I apologize for rescheduling our meeting so many times. I've been more in the mood for shopping and other such activities." His mouth twitched again. Things like blatant little forms of disrespect or verbal jabs kept him entertained.
"How are you adjusting to life as the Fire Tribe leader? It is quite a burden for a woman to take on. I am here to help, however, should you need assistance." He bowed again.
Ah, the narrowing of the eyes. It was a somewhat gesture for a challenge. It was mostly to ask him why in the heck he did not want to meet her sooner. Sang Bora had her worried the whole entire time. Hakunai thought that he was disappointed in her at the ceremony. He made her wonder what she did wrong. Of course, that was her problem and she knew that she jumped to conclusions too easily. It was a bad habit of hers. I just felt awful not being able to connect with my tribe's dragon.
All the other leaders made it look so easy. Maybe Hakunai had to work harder for her dragon's attention. The Red Dragon had bowed to her and that made her blink her red eyes at him curiously. She decided to just ignore it, thinking it was a nice gesture from him. "O-Oh, no. It's an honor to meet you, Sang Bora. Erm... Red Dragon." she piped up and bowed to him. Which one was she supposed to call him!? Calling him the Red Dragon made her feel like she was being more respective of him. Calling him by his real name must have been a relief to him since Red Dragon was kind of meant for formalities.
A nice way to start this off.. Hakunai raised up from her bow and inched over to a chair. Gods, she didn't know how to really act in front of him. She watched him as she sat down, hoping that was alright with him. Sang Bora explained to her why their meeting had been pushed back. Hm... That was interesting. Didn't sound like he was trying to make up an excuse at all! Oh, well. They finally met. That was what Haku had been waiting for. But, it still worried her that she couldn't make contact with him sooner.
"I think I'm adjusting pretty well. Wait, wha-"Calm down... Calm.. What the heck was that supposed to mean? So what if she was a girl leading a tribe? There was no rules against that. Oh, Hakunai could see what he was trying to do. Yeah, well, I'm not going to fall for it. She cleared her throat and said, "And, how would that be a burden? I care about the tribe and everything seem to be running smoothly. I intend to keep it like that, but I know that it can't always be that way."
Oh! There was also something else she needed to mention. Hakunai was leaning towards saying yes to Hachiro, but she was still deciding on it. Why not ask the dragon about it while she was still in his presence? "Oh, and... the Water Tribe leader has a request. He would like to form alliances with the Fire Tribe. I told him I would think about it so... what do you think about it?"
The Red Dragon sat down as well, listening intently. His comment about women had tripped her up a bit, but it didn't work as well as he wanted it too. Ah, well, they'd probably be seeing enough of each other anyway. It wasn't his last opportunity.
"I see. I'm surprised you're adjusting so well, Lady Haku, but that's excellent! It wouldn't do to have a leader who didn't care about his tribe. Unfortunately, even the most well-intended leadership can prove to be useless or worse."
He blinked, secretly pleased that she'd asked for his opinion. "Water and Fire rarely mix well, but these are troubled times. I cannot think of any immediate threats, aside from the possibility of arming an enemy even further. The fact that you're a new leader is suspicious as well... it may well be that the Water Tribe is trying to take advantage of your inexperience. You may want to consult another adviser on this further." He had to admit, the new leader got things done quickly. The old leader had been very slow to change or alliances. It was a refreshing change of pace, to have things happening. But...
"...Wait, you've seen the water tribe leader already?" Sang Bora narrowed his eyes. "Was there a conference or something of the sort? It is customary to notify the protector of your tribe before a meeting with foreign leadership, you know." Slacker though he may be, the Red Dragon always made a point to attend political conferences, and he was a bit ticked off at the idea that there may have been one where she hadn't bothered consulting him. Little did he know, this wasn't actually the case.
It was surprising, though. Haku didn't think she could pull it off either. There was some self-doubt every once in a while but just rarely. It was good that Sang Bora understood what she was trying to say. That last comment about it could've been taken the wrong way. Haku was trying to watch herself and not play his games if he was trying to get her angry. It was funny how Sang Bora had said the exact same thing as her.
That was the first she said to Hachiro. Fire and water did not mix well.. Then, Sang Bora had said some similar words that Hachiro had said to her. Okay, they were both right. Maybe they should form an alliance. Sang Bora also pointed out that the Water Tribe leader could be using the alliance to take advantage of her since she was new and inexperienced as a leader. That was exactly what she was saying to Hachiro. Uh-oh.. That didn't sound good.
Well, it was good to know that she had to notify him before visiting a leader from a different tribe. Most of the people she met from different tribes were the dragons. There might have been a rule for that, too, but they came to her tribe. They just happened to run into each other. They were all dressed up so weird and looking suspicious. She had no choice but to pull them over and talk to them about it.
Her face turned dark red as she remembered the meeting clearly. How could she not! The Water Tribe leader had walked in on her while she was taking a bath. I can't tell him that..."I was out one day in the Lightning Tribe, and we bumped into each other. He was looking for me in Fire Tribe, and the villagers told him that I was in Lightning Tribe."
"Oh? A chance meeting might be a bit suspicious... I'd definitely recommend talking to some advisers, Lady Haku. I'm not quite sure what kind of damage the Water Tribe of all tribes could possibly do, but it's best to be prudent."
He stretched and yawned. "What about you, glorious leader? What do you think?"
She was harder to piss off than the old leader had been. Oh well, there would be plenty of chances. For now it seemed like they were talking business.
Hakunai nodded, reminding herself to go do that later when she had the time. What.. Glorious leader? Where did that come from? Anyway, she thought it would be a good idea to ask him while she was there. It would only be appropriate for her to get some of his opinions on it since she was new as a leader. The tribe wouldn't want an inexperienced leader to rush into things without thinking it through first. That would be leaving herself open to the enemy. It would show her weaknesses. "I think I will have to talk with the advisers about it then." She wondered if she should have told him about her meeting the Blue Dragon and the Yellow Dragon. They shouldn't have been much of a threat as their leaders. Nah, it'll be fine..
