Ri-cha was standing in the meadow with her face covered by her hands. Nope, she wasn't crying. It looked like she was playing a game with someone.. but with who? She had to give her little kitten some extra time to hide since Sasa had dark fur. The kitten would stand out like a sore thumb in the meadow. It was risky to play hide and seek with a kitten, but Sasa knew better to either move out of the way or give herself up to Ri-cha if her owner was getting close.
"Eight... Nine... Ten! Here I come."
Ri-cha removed her hands and peered around the meadow, walking slowly. A playful smile was on her face as she searched for her black kitten. "Hm~ You have gotten better at this, Sasa." The kitten hid down low in the tall, golden field of grass. Sasa let out a small sneeze and curled its tail around itself. "I know that cute sneeze anywhere!" she said and laughed to herself. Ri-cha noticed a white tail tip sticking out and she slowly snuck up behind the kitten. She reached out and grabbed the kitten, lifting Sasa up into the air.
"I. Got. You~" Sasa huffed with defeat and licked Ri-cha's hand. The girl giggled and a shiver went up her spine. It kind of tickled getting licked by a cat because of their brush-like tongues. Ri-cha held Sasa close to her chest and turned around to face the rustling noise. "U-Um... Hello?"
Jin Seun-tae strode through the meadow, Haru, the little calico kitten, in his arms. Despite the cold weather, he was in a rolled-up long sleeves and rolled-up jeans. His parents wouldn't have liked it if he had left without long clothing. You'll freeze, or get a cold, they'd say. But the blonde-haired boy had always had a high tolerance for cold, especially after wandering around in the cold weather so much when he was younger. Haru hesitated, looking out at the grass hesitantly. It took a moment for Jin to notice what the young cat had spotted, but he could see a red-headed girl, around his age, maybe a year younger, holding a cat.
He picked his way through the golden meadow, heading towards her. He set the calico on the ground, who wove along the bushes that came along once in a while. He made it towards Ri-cha much more quickly then he did, and he just barely caught her words - to his cat. He stepped behind his pet. "Hello," he replied with a sideways smile. "Haru here wanted to say 'hi' to your cat. He's always been a cat kind of cat." He gave a soft laugh at that, sitting down beside her, tilting his head as he watched his kitten sniff curiously at Sasa.
As the boy approached closer, Ri-cha could see him at a better view. I didn't think anyone was out here. They were supposed to be alone so that no one could interrupt their game of hide and seek. Ri-cha would also be worried if someone showed up and accidentally stepped on her kitten. It would be an accident, but she would still make a big deal about it. Sasa was like family to her. The boy that was approaching them was kind of cute. Ri-cha blushed a light blush and walked up to Jin, meeting him half way. She giggled and her breath could be seen in the air. Haru was a cat kind of cat, huh?
"Hi. I'm Ri-cha. This is my kitten, Sasa." Ri-cha crouched down and carefully placed Sasa down on her paws. She looked down at the two kittens and smiled, hoping they would get along. Sasa looked up at Ri-cha like she didn't know what to do. The black kitten took a step towards the calico and sniffed him as well, getting familiar with his scent.
"Haru is so cute~" she praised Jin's kitten and lifted her brown gaze to meet his. "Male calicos are very rare."
The first thought that struck Jin as he approached, was that the girl was pretty. He'd never thought that about anyone before, though he'd seen guys around the village talking about girls and whatnot. He'd never really been that type. He'd rather spend his time outdoors, making art, or with his cats. "Jin Seung-tae, but you can call me whatever you want. Jin, Seung, Tae, Seung-tae. I don't really care," he grinned at her, watching as she placed Sasa on the ground. Haru padded towards her confidently, one of those cat-like smiles planted on his face.
"Thank you. Sasa is adorable too," he replied. It was odd, actually meeting someone who seemed to like cats and know as much about them as he did. "They are! My mother's cat had kittens a while back - I actually have two. I don't know where the others went," he shrugged. He had wished to keep them all, but he knew his mother wouldn't let him. He looked down at Sasa. "Maybe she's one!" He joked. It probably wasn't true. He rested his chin on his knees, tilting his head so he could see her. "I've never seen you around before." It may have surprised some people that he didn't recognize the princess's name.
"Nice to meet you, Jin Seung-tae. I think I will call you by Jin then." Going by the first name was normal. He could always tell her if he wanted to be called by something else. That reminded her to tell him to call her Ahn. It sounded more grown up to her. "O-Oh! I forgot to tell you. I like to be called Ahn not Ri." Ri-cha didn't like being called by her first name. It sounded like a baby's name. Cute and short. Ahn was more grown up to her. Certainly, she was not a baby anymore. (Eventually, she'll accept her first name and go by it.)
Jin was a sweet guy, and he liked cats! He also had cats of his own so maybe Sasa could make some cat friends after all. Ri-cha nodded and blushed lightly, agreeing that Sasa was adorable. Yep! That was Ri-cha's little baby kitten. Sasa held a special place in Ri-cha's heart. The brunette grew excited when Jin said that he had more cats. Hopefully, they were nice like Haru and would get along with Sasa. Ri-cha rolled her eyes playfully at the joke he made.
Even if she was, Ri-cha wouldn't give Sasa back to her mother unless Sasa wanted to go back. "Same goes for you. Are you knew around here?" Sasa meowed loudly at Haru, pawing at his face. She flicked her tail and crouched down, growling playfully at the cat. Ri-cha turned her attention to Sasa and smiled. "I think Sasa wants to play with Haru."
actually, jin is his family name, or last name. korean names work differently, but i'll still have him go by jin xD
Jin smiled amiably, sliding his hand through his blonde hair. "Ahn? Alright, if you insist, princess," he teased, unaware that that's exactly what she was. "Ri's pretty, though," he complained. "Why don't you just go by Ri? I like the name better - what does it mean, anyways? Ri-cha." He inquired curiously, reaching out a hand to scratch Haru's back. The little kitten looked up at him in playful protest, as if to tell Jin that he was in the middle of something important. The blonde-haired boy laughed, crossing his arms behind his neck as he leaned back in the grass. It was a perfect scene, his hair only slightly yellower than the golden grass. He stared up at the sky.
Jin enjoyed summer so much more than winter. It wasn't because it was warmer, but because his mother let him wander around, as he enjoyed to do, during summer months. He could run through the meadow or trees with his friends, play games, whatever he wanted. Even go splash around in the stream. But if he came home wet during the winter, his mother would be furious. He glanced over at Ri-cha. She was dressed well, better than the other villagers, but he didn't take much notice to that. Maybe she was just one of the more wealthy townsfolk.
"Huh?" He lifted his head. "Oh. No, been here all my life. Born and raised," he gave a small roll of his eyes, the flopped back into the golden grass with a laugh. Haru, at the seemingly invitation from Sasa, gave another cat-like grin, and crouched towards the ground playfully. He hopped from foot to foot, before jumping onto the other kitten in attempt to play. "Haru always wants to play." He laughed. "So. Where do you live? I know most of the people around my village, but I've never seen you. Which village do you live in?"

Woah, wait a minute. Pri-Princess..? Did he know who she was? Nah, he didn't even know who she was nor did he ever see her around. Maybe he knew her sister, Mi-cha. Jin accepted to call her Ahn if that's what she wanted. Then, he said something about her first name being pretty. "I-It's not pretty... It's cute and childish. I am not a child." Ri-cha wanted people to think of her as a grown woman. Poor girl was trying to grow up too fast. It was actually sad to see her try so hard to be an adult. But, she was going to turn fifteen in a few months. It was about time she took on some responsibilities as a young adult. He likes the name better... but I like Ahn!
Ri-cha was being childish about it and yet it was understandable. If she wanted to be called by something else then she wanted to be called by something else. "The meaning has nothing to do with it, although, I do like the meaning of my name. Ahn just sounds more mature and... grown up. Ri-cha means king girl... or king daughter I think." The brunette sat there in the field with the two kittens and maybe even a new friend. Haru could also be a new friend, even though he was a cat. That wouldn't matter to her. Ri-cha tried to dress like a normal villager. Even her clothes that looked normal and not as fancy, were made from special fabrics and materials.
Jin told her that he had been in the Earth Tribe his whole life. That was interesting... She wondered why she hadn't met him before. Maybe he came from a different village that she didn't visit often. Or, they just had the bad luck of meeting each other earlier. It was still nice that they met. They both liked cats, and they got along pretty well. Sasa let out a squeak as Haru caught her off guard. The kitten was taken down and her chubby belly made her roll slightly.
She let out a huff and was lying on her back, pawing at Haru playfully and kicking at his belly. Ri-cha nodded, agreeing that Sasa also liked to play, too. They would play all kinds of games together. The princess looked at Haru to see him lying down in the grass. That looked like fun and the ground wasn't cold. Thank goodness, they were almost done with the cold winter spell that had been carrying on for quite a while. Longer than expected actually.
Ri-cha laid down on her back and looked at the blue sky filled with white, fluffy clouds. I would really like to see a sunset.. Hm... Later, I might be able to catch the sunset before it goes down completely."So. Where do you live? I know most of the people around my village, but I've never seen you. Which village do you live in?" Oh, great. The truth was going to come out. There was no way she could lie to him about who she was. Suddenly, she felt uncomfortable lying down. She sat up and tried to collect herself, preparing herself to get ready to tell him.
"Well... um... I live in Yoso. Y-You know, the actual kingdom. There is an older princess named Mi-cha. I'm her little sister, Ri-cha. I'm a princess, too. The second princess of Yoso."
Jin laughed at her, though not in a mean way, turning his head sideways. "If Ri's childish, then so's Jin," he replied. "We are kids, you know. Don't try and be all grown up just yet. Maybe wait a couple more years," he chuckled, playing with the rolled-up cuff of his sleeve. "Just 'cause your a kid, doesn't mean you have to be childish, though. But, being childish is fun!" He laughed, looking back up at the fluffy white clouds. Though the day seemed perfect, the sun was shining, the wind had an almost unbearable chill to it - for almost everyone.
He crossed one leg over the other, heaving a content sigh. The small 'grass-bed' he had formed by laying on it was quite comfortable. "Mature? Pshhh. So what? It's not like my name is mature, but I still go with it. Your personality and level of matureness isn't bound by your name and all that crap," he waved his hand in the air. "King daughter. Your parents must think they're the king and queen!" He laughed at the thought.
He watched as the two kittens tussled in the grass. A small breeze picked up, blowing his golden-blonde hair slightly, but he didn't mind. His hair was often unruly, but not in a bad way. He looked... attractively rumpled, you could say. Some boys were always fixing their hair and keeping their clothes perfectly clean and ironed. He didn't care what he looked like.
When she laid down beside him, a small patch of grass blocked Jin from seeing her correctly. The two teens were weighing down two parts of the grass, but the middle had managed to spring up, and that kinda science-y stuff. At her words, he paused, looking over at her in disbelief. Yoso? Was she a... servant? No, that couldn't be it. But she wasn't finished. He peered at her through the grass, unsure of how to respond.
"Oh... I'm, uh.. I apologize for what I said earlier," he laughed nervously, mentioning what he had said about her parents. They really were king and queen, and she was princess. He felt bad for calling her that earlier in a joking way. Am I supposed to be more.. polite around her? I hate being polite. "Your still a normal girl, though," he replied. "This doesn't mean you can't have fun, right, princess?" He grinned.
Ri-cha blushed and understood what Jin was trying to tell her. That's what everyone told her when she tried to act grown up. They worried about her deeply. In other words, she was wishing her life away because she wanted to grow up so fast. But, she also enjoyed being young and energetic. Jin had some good points on that subject. Sasa hissed slightly and tussled around with Haru in the tall grass. It was so funny that those two little kittens could take down the long, golden stalks of grass.
They were cute, too. "Sasa!" she called out to her kitten. Sasa picked up her black head and looked over her shoulder at her owner. "Play nice, okay?" Sasa meowed and went back to playing with Haru. Sasa was such a good kitty. Ri-cha looked to Jin and shook her head, waving her hands in front of herself in distress. "N-No, it's fine... really."I don't want him to think of me as a princess. I don't like formalities. I think I should be equal to him. I am equal to him and the other villagers. And, the thing Mi-cha worries about..
People using us for popularity, money, or the chance to live the life of royalty. No, Jin couldn't be like that. Of course, that's what she wanted to think. Jin stated that she was still a normal girl and that she could have fun. Ri-cha nodded and smiled at him, liking the fact that he understood her mostly. "I don't know. I like to think of myself as a normal girl. I don't like being... Princess Ri-cha." she said and stuck her nose up at that title.
Princess, princess, princess.. Ugh, it really bothered her. And, what if she couldn't lead her country? She wished her sister could stay around forever. Mi-cha could be queen, and Ri-cha would be able to live the life of a normal girl with no attendants stalking her or any of that high maintenance stuff. Maybe they could do that together. "Jin, you can call me Ri if you'd like. B-But... only you, okay?"
Jin laughed again, giving a shrug. "I'm sure Haru doesn't mind. He's aways been a tough guy," he laughed, poking the calico lightly with the toe of his shoe. Haru looked back in protest, batting lightly at the blonde-haired boy's shoe before returning to playing with Sasa. He glanced at Ri-cha, nodding. "Good, then. I don't want to be on bad terms with the royalty," he teased, giving her a wink. In all honesty, he didn't really care that she was the princess. Sure, it had surprised him, but he would still like to think of her as a friend. It wasn't like she couldn't befriend peasants
"Hm. Titles are just titles sometimes. Just like I said about names, you aren't bound by your title, either." He shrugged. "You don't have to act all princess-y and proper just because your the King's daughter. You were doing a great job of concealing it," he gave a small laugh. "You blend right in to the crowd, even if your clothes are more expensive and well-made." He grinned at her, poking her sleeve.
Her next words made his grin grow even wider. "Awesome," he laughed. "Have I wormed my way into the princess's life?" He teased. "Ri," he murmured, giving a small nod. "I like it. Better than Ahn." He leaned back onto his small 'nest' of grass. "Whats it like being a princess? A lot different from being a villager, I suspect," he asked, closing his eyes, his face turned upwards.
Ri-cha stared at the kittens that were tussling around in the tall grass. Wow.. It seemed like she was in deep thought about something. Her brown eyes locked onto Jin and she smiled as she listened to him. Jin was born a natural motivational speaker. But, he could've also been telling the truth like any person would. It was the truth and yet she felt like he said those things to cheer her up. I could have it worse like Mi-cha. She has to act proper all the time and there is more pressure on her.
Soon, she will become queen of Yoso. Her eyes sparkled when Jin said that she blended in with the commoner crowd, even though her clothes were made of the best material out there. That really made her day! That was exactly what she was looking for. "Have I wormed my way into the princess's life?""O-Oh... heheh~" she laughed lightly and blushed.
"I think.. you have managed to worm into my life. And, we can be friends, too... if you want." That would be nice to have friends. It didn't matter how many she would make. She wanted at least one so she could have someone else to talk to besides her older sister. Ri-cha rolled her eyes playfully and groaned, plopping back into the grass. "Ugh, being a princess! It is absolutely blood-sucking. It drains the life right out of you! I know that there are people out there that would love to be in my position, but they are turning me into something that I'm not. I don't want to be... her.
I want to be me. Can't I at least have that much in my life? But, that's not what you wanted to know..." she paused and sighed, looking up at the sky. "I guess being a princess is okay. You get high maintenance and...- Oh, what am I saying? I can't see anything good in being a princess except for that you are taught manners. Good manners are nice to have. I'd prefer to dress myself, feed myself, and walk around freely without people following me around and watching my every move. I want to make friends and have fun. They worry too much about me and Mi-cha getting hurt easily. We are tougher than they think. I like to do work around the kingdom. I know it's the maids's job, but I get soooo bored!
There's hardly anything I can do so I feel lazy and that I'm just wasting my life." Ri-cha let out another sigh but louder and put her hands on her face. She moved her hands away from her face and looked over at Jin. "You must think I'm a spoiled brat. I am grateful for everything I have been given but... I just want to be myself. That's all I want. It doesn't mean my life as a princess has to disappear. All I want is a little more freedom to do what I want. You know, to live like a regular teenager girl at my age."

Jin looked over at the girl with a grin on his face, pushing back a few stalks of grass so he could see her clearly. "I thought you had taken the hint that we are friends now," he laughed, laying back down in the grass. "No escaping the mighty Jin Seung-tae!" He crossed his arms back underneath his head, listening as she spoke with closed eyes. "Hmmm... her? Your sister, or the queen?" He inquired. "I'd imagine you wouldn't want to be the queen. You don't seem the type." He replied. "You'd have to get married to rule properly, and have kids. I'm sure there'd be men chasing after you like crazy in want for the throne. You'd have to attend formal meetings too, I imagine. I couldn't see you fitting into that job."
He paused. "Dress yourself? They don't let you even dress your own self?" He shuddered. "That's horrible. You must hate that," he glanced over at Ri-cha, who seemed disgusted about all that princess-y stuff. "Nah, I don't think your a spoiled brat," he said. "I don't blame you. It seems as if they're keeping you inside a cage!" He shook his head at the thought. "Do they let you have any freedom? Or did you sneak out here?" He asked, blinking his golden eyes at her.
Jin sighed. "But you will have to be the queen eventually, won't you?" He asked suddenly. "I don't really know how this stuff works, but will that happen? Or would her children inherit the throne?" He wasn't entirely sure. However, he hoped it wasn't the case. He doubted they could be friends if she was queen. "But, if you were queen… we couldn't be friends, could we?" He frowned.
Ri-cha rolled her eyes playfully as Jin pulled back some of the stalks of grass to see her clearly. "Ha ha~ Okay then." They were officially friends. That made her psyched that she had made a friend. Also, Sasa had made a friend that day, too. "No escaping the mighty Jin Seung-tae!""Oh, really? I could always have my guards run you right out of Yoso." That wasn't a very nice way to treat a friend. She was just kidding, of course.
She wouldn't let her guards or attendants do that to him unless he really messed something up between them. Ri-cha nodded in response to the first guess. Yep! That was exactly why she didn't want to become like Mi-cha. Mi-cha had guys fawning over her for the throne, she had meetings to go to, she had extra security from the guards, and she would have to get married AND have kids! It was a lot to put on poor Mi-cha, but she didn't look like she cared.
Ri-cha wished she could stay young so she wouldn't have to grow up and expect all of that to be piled on her. But, they were raised to take on responsibilities and be prepared to become the future queens of Yoso. "Dress yourself? They don't let you even dress your own self?"Um... Pretty much. It was discomforting. Sometimes they would dress her. That was only if she was too tired to remember sitting up in bed and the maids helping her dress up. The other times they didn't dress her would be when she would throw a fit and tell them that she could dress herself.
No one dared to mess with Ri-cha. They knew that she felt puny whenever they did simple things for her that she could do on her own. "I snuck out here. They followed me.. but I guess I lost them through the town square." Jin continued to ask more questions. It was fine with her. People had many questions about the royal life. It was just a stressful subject for Ri-cha and maybe even for Mi-cha.
"I would think so. It depends on how earlier Mi-cha gives up the throne after having kids. If they aren't at the appropriate age by then, I will take over." Ri-cha wasn't worried about not being a good queen to her people. She knew she would be just fine, but it was too much to think about at her age. Her mind might change overtime as she got older, though. "If I become queen, I will go against the rules. I might even rewrite them if it says I can't be friends with a commoner or noble.
I think we should all be equal. I just happened to be born in the royal family. I pinky promise we will be the best of friends now... and forever." Ri-cha stuck out her pinky and reached over to Jin so they could make the pinky promise.
Jin glared at her playfully. "Your just afraid to lose! That's why you don't fight me yourself - your scared!" He taunted, a grin planted on his face. He plucked a piece of grass, rolling it between his fingers. The blonde-haired boy cupped his hands around it, keeping it taut, and brought it to his mouth. He blew, and it made a deep whistling sound that made the kittens halt their playing and look up at him curiously. He laughed, flicking the piece of grass away.
"Oooh. Rebel," he teased, poking her lightly on the shoulder with his finger. He watched her as she spoke. "Hm. Ri-cha the Queen. But I couldn't see you with kids," he narrowed his eyes with a laugh. "Instead, cats," he smirked playfully.
"You must be a trouble-maker around the palace. I bet all those guards hate you, seeing as you can sneak past them." He laughed, linking her pinky with his own. "Forever." He agreed, smiling. After a moment he let his hand fall, staring up at the sky. "Okay, enough of this. Let's do something fun," he got to his feet, holding his hand out for her.
"Ha! I wouldn't bet on it." Typical Ri-cha declaring a challenge. She blinked at him when he plucked the grass and made a whistling sound through it. Oh... that's right. Ri-cha remembered that she used to take grass and make a whistling sound through it. It caught Sasa's and Haru's attention.
"But I couldn't see you with kids. Instead, cats.." Ri shrugged her shoulders in response, kind of agreeing with that. "Ha. Ha! Very funny. Yes, I will be the queen of Kittenville. My kitten clan will rule yours!"
Ri had a feeling that Mi was worried about her growing up to have the love for only cats. Surely, Ri would find someone. She had plenty of time to find that special someone. Her heart skipped a beat unexpectedly when Jin linked his pinky finger with hers.
She blushed hard and sat up, seeing as Jin was getting up. Ri sat back in the grass and grinned at Him, holding her hand out to him. "I can stand up on my own... but your assistance can be an acception."
